We chose to have our wedding at the Royal Kona Resort. From the moment we arrived we fell in love with the place. The wedding coordinators were outstanding! Our wedding was a beautiful and memorable experience. The ceremony was right in the view of the ocean and the food at the reception was outstanding. Karen was there every step of the process and was excellent at keeping everything in order and stress free. Ashley and Brian were also extremely helpful with making things go smoothly. The employees at the hotel were friendly and informed us of the many things to do in the area.
We stayed in a corner king room in the Ali’i Tower. The views of the ocean from the room were absolutely breathtaking. The room was clean and I loved being able to hear the crash of the waves from the ocean at night. The hotel also had it's own private lagoon and on the first day we were there, we caught site of a huge sea turtle. The lagoon was great to swim in, sun yourself by and even snorkel in. Any resort can have beautiful rooms, views and amenities, but what we appreciated most of all was the friendliness and sincerity of the people here. It is the perfect place to have a small intimate wedding ceremony. We are already planning to go back for a future anniversary!

We got married here in June and it was absolutely perfect! Ashley and Karen were amazing and had everything delivered as promised. They did everything for us, paid attention to our needs and made really good suggestions. The musician Bula and photographer Jerusha were amazing as well. Wouldn't have had it any other way!

I just got married at The Royal Kona Resort a couple of weeks ago. The staff at the Romance Center were amazing Karen and Ashley made everything so easy. They were always very caring and willing to help with whatever was needed. Thanks to these two ladies and the rest of the staff at the Royal Kona Resort, everything was perfect on my wedding day. The location, food, and entertainment were amazing. If you are planning a destination wedding look no further this is an awesome location. The location is just beautiful oceanfront property and walking distance from the shops plus only a few minutes away from the airport. The rooms are very clean and spacious. We stayed at the Honeymoon suite which had an amazing view.

We had our wedding reception here on Sept 2nd, 2011. It was a destination wedding and I had never been to the site nor to the island so it was a bit scary to plan a reception somewhere you have never been. This venue is just so beautiful and perfect. Our reception was on the Alii Surf terrace overlooking the beach and ocean and couldn't have been more intimate and perfect. Ashley and Karen in the Romance center were amazing and were always responsive to my calls or emails with any questions on the planning. It was truly an amazing experience and a great value for the money. I highly recommend having your wedding or reception here and also recommend booking the ukulele player, Bula, through them as well, he added such a perfect touch.

The Wedding Coordinators were amazing. Ashley went above and beyond the call of duty. Brian helped us with the tasting and that went very smoothly and the food was delicious. The day of the wedding they were on top of everything and it all went off without a hitch. All the people who were from Kona were very impressed with how elegant the wedding was. Yet it was very Hawaiian and followed the theme. Everyone who stayed at the hotel was very pleased. I had three rooms booked and never had a problem. The hotel management can be very proud of the job the Romance Center did.

First of all, I would like to thank our wedding coordinator Ashley, for helping us plan the perfect wedding. My husband and I after 5 yrs of marriage decided to renew our vows on big island with 35 of our closest friends and family members. I was a bit nervous planning my destination wedding given the fact that we live in Los Angeles CA. However, the communication between myself and the romance center was always open through email, fax, and phone. The location was perfect! Walking distance to everything, including our timeshare (which is where we stayed with our friends and family). The day of our ceremony, My step daughter, sister in law and self checked into our room. I immediately started to cry as I opened the door, took my first look at my honeymoon suite. The double balcony overlooked the ocean and the city. I had tears of joy as I was getting my hair and make up done while watching live dolphins do tricks in the ocean. As we were done getting ready, we went to the romance center to meet Ashley, who then presented me with my bouquet. They nailed it on the dot with every tropical flower I requested. She then escorted me to Nohea point where I had the rest of my family, friends, and husband waiting. EVERYTHING WAS BREATHTAKING!!! From our musician (Bula), to the reverend's Hawaiian words (Patrick), followed by our Luau. Yes we renewed our vows on 4th of July, so followed by the Luau we took all 35 of our guest back to our suite to cut the cake (which was not only amazingly beautiful, but also delicious) champagne toast, followed by fireworks! My husband's family being of Hawaiian descent agreed that this Hawaiian style wedding couldn't have been more perfect. And I agree! Royal Kona Resort delivered my fairy tale wedding that I will always remember...Thank you! –

I want to thank Ashley Akamu and her wonderful assistants for the great wedding they put together for my husband and I. They were beyond accommodating and made the experience great! We wanted a wedding that we could share a vision, but that someone else would do all the work in implementing it. Ashley did this beautifully! It also rained on our wedding and Ashley was incredibly accommodating and continued our wedding details with some alterations, but no panic ensued. For that, I am truly grateful! This experience was wonderful and I could write on forever about the memories that I have created here. I would highly recommend this hotel and once again thank Ashley for her services!!! They were fantastic! :)

Amy and I are now settled back here in Denver after our trip and wanted to thank you for such a great experience from beginning to end. Brian, you and your staff were truly a pleasure to work with and you made the wedding and planning of the wedding a memorable experience. Amy and I, as well as our family and friends that attended are all extremely pleased with the way everything turned out, it was a beautiful wedding and a fun, relaxed experience. From the beautiful setup at sunset cove, to the delicious wedding cake as well as everything in between was absolutely everything we had imagined. You certainly are experts in your field and we would gladly recommend you and the Royal Kona Resort for any wedding. So to all of you, thank you!
Also, please pass the word along to the Royal Kona Resort that we very much enjoyed our stay there. The staff was all friendly and helpful and the service we received from the front desk, to Don's Mai Tai Bar, to housekeeping was all first class. The luau was a great show and delicious food. And Cat and Robby our wedding photographers were a treat to work with and they produced some amazing photos.

Hello Everyone, Not sure who will end up reading this review, but when I was considering getting married at the Royal Kona Resort I couldn't find anything online to help me make a decision, so I ended up using the resort a bit blindsided!
Now that I am back from my fabulous wedding and honeymoon, I wanted to tell everyone about my amazing experience and recommend the Royal Kona to others. Hopefully a future bride will find the below useful!
My partner and I got engaged in September 2010. As soon as the ring was on my finger I said 'Can we get married in Kona?' which was met with a 'of course!'
I am Australian and my partner is Scottish. We both live in Australia and having a destination wedding seemed to be the best idea as all of our family and friends would have to travel, as opposed to just his family if we decided to have the wedding in Australia. We both went to Kona four years prior for a holiday and absolutely loved it. I had always hoped to get married there eventually.
When we stayed in Kona before, we actually stayed at the Kona Tiki Hotel. We both loved it, but it just doesn't have the facilities to hold a wedding. Initially I looked at arranging all the wedding particulars myself, such as a venue, minister, music etc, but it ended up just being too much work to do from Australia via email.
We then started looking for a place that could arrange the majority of the wedding things for us. We only wanted a small wedding with 20 people max & we contacted quite a few different resorts on the island asking for info on their wedding packages etc. We narrowed it down to the Royal Kona Resort & The Kona Village Resort as they both had the sort of venues & prices we were looking for. As my husband is a chef, we ended up going with the Royal Kona as he thought the reception menus were value for money and I enjoyed receiving quick responses to my emails from their wedding Co-Ordinator Ashley Akamu.
After quite a lot of email contact between myself and Ashley we set a date and put down a deposit. We paid this deposit via cheque in US funds (If you're in OZ you have to physically go to the bank and request this to be done and it costs $15AUD) and received a receipt in the post. Ashley told us that they would contact us three months out from the wedding to make arrangements. I was a little concerned about this at first as I thought planning a wedding would take at least a year, but Ashley seemed confident everything could be done within 3 months.
Three months out from the wedding I contacted Ashley to start the proceedings. I was starting to get a bit nervous and concerned that the wedding was so close with nothing yet arranged. Ashley really set me at ease and we started working through all the wedding things. She emailed me a questionnaire about the wedding from 'How many guests' to 'What type of flowers for your bouquet' and we pretty much went from there. At times we were emailing back and forth every couple of days. Nothing I asked was ever a problem and she was always helpful and professional in her emails.
Ashley pretty much arranged everything. She had lots of pictures of the different venues for the ceremony and reception, different table set ups, bouquet pictures. She also suggested little hints and tips to save us money. She also had no problem with us bringing a handmade table runner from Australia and personal decorations for the wedding table. I always felt comfortable contacting her and I didn't feel like 'just another bride' as I’m sure she deals with many every year.
Everything was pretty much arranged two weeks out from the wedding and I was thrilled with the result. Everything I wanted was done. I had the sort of minister I dreamt of (Tomasi), the type of ceremony I wanted, the entertainment at the reception (Hula dancer Criste, musician Bula), the food selected, the flowers ordered and the hair and make up appointments booked. I felt like everything was complete and I hadn't even stepped foot on the Big Island yet!
My partner and I arrived on the Big Island four days before the majority of the guests started arriving. I wanted to arrive early so that I could meet personally with Ashley to ensure that all the wedding things were underway. I also wanted to make sure that anything that wasn't quite right could be fixed in plenty of time. To be honest, the only thing that needed to be fixed was an appointment with a wedding shop to iron my dress as it got really creased on the way over from Australia. Ashley suggested someone that could help and the dress was ironed promptly. Ashley had everything under control and showed us the ceremony venue & wedding reception areas. It wasn't even a problem when the final number of guests jumped from 19 to 23 two days before the wedding due to a late notice RSVP. When our wedding party arrived, Ashley co-ordinated a wedding rehearsal and a meeting with the minister. She also confirmed all the hair & make up appointments for us and gave directions as it had to be done off site due to the amount of bridesmaids.
The rooms were very nice and we had a beautiful view of the ocean. They aren't 5 star amazing but they are clean and the bed we had was huge! Just what we wanted ;-)
On the big day everything went smoothly and it was honestly my dream wedding. The thing that surprised me the most was that Ashley & Karen (another wedding co-ordinator) assisted during the entire wedding. One looked after the groom and the other looked after me, making sure we didn't see each other before the wedding. They made sure the guests went to the right place after the ceremony and even helped me at the reception when I broke the bussell on my dress! I never expected them to be there! They were so professional & well dressed for the wedding I wish I'd had them as proper guests!
I'm so happy we decided to have our wedding at the Royal Kona. I highly recommend getting married there and I wouldn't have changed anything. The Royal Kona Resort is so lucky to have Ashley as a wedding co-ordinator and you won't be disappointed should you decide to get married there. Please tell her 'Danielle from Australia' said hello!

Our experience with the Royal Kona Resort was excellent. We had our wedding reception on the Alii Terrace, a beautiful and great place for a reception. Working with the Romance Center was a breeze and our reception was exactly what I envisioned; I appreciate all their help. The food was wonderful, our cake was beautiful, the musician (Bula) was great and the overall ambiance was perfect!
